Olympic Tower

Look down on Munich from 190 metres: Here you have the best views all the way to the Alps. At a speed of 7m/s, you also quickly get closer to the 7th heaven: the view of Munich, its surroundings and, in favourable weather, of the Alpine chain from the Salzkammergut to the Allgäu Alps is just as unique as the Olympic Tower itself.

Up here on one of Europe's highest towers, there is no sign of the hustle and bustle of the big city. Take a deep breath, switch off - and then breathe a sigh of relief. From the viewing platforms of the tower at a height of 190 metres, the shiny silhouette of the tent roof of the Olympic Park is a shining example of extraordinary architecture.

The covered platform is also home to the "Future Platform". The area offers an exhibition on the future of live entertainment and is also used for smaller events such as the Munich Weitblick.

At 291.28 metres high, Munich's most prominent landmark is three times taller than the towers of the Frauenkirche. Since its opening on 22 February 1968, the 52,500-ton giant has defied all Föhn and autumn storms.

The Olympic Tower will be closed for renovation work from June 2024, probably for two years. For this reason, voucher sales for the Olympic Tower ascent have been discontinued. Vouchers already purchased remain valid until 31.05.2024! Until the end of May 2024, Munich's highest landmark can still be visited during the usual opening hours and the view of the state capital and surrounding area can be enjoyed. We look forward to seeing you!

50 years of construction of the Olympic Tower

The foundation stone for the Munich Olympic Tower was laid in 1965.

You will find:

A black and white photo exhibition on the construction of the Olympic Tower (1965-1968) on the open platform. We would like to thank the Munich City Archive and Heinz Gebhardt (Münchenfoto) for the great photos!

Weather phenomena / Olympic Tower. Impressive photos by our photographer Martin Hangen with lightning, fog, rainbow and full moon interacting with the Olympic Tower.

By Elevator into the Future

For the 50th anniversary of the Games, in 2022, the "Future Platform" on the Olympic Tower opened their doors.

Under the motto "By Elevator into the Future", visitors can expect an exhibition on the future of live entertainment on the closed platform. In addition, VR glasses offer a spectacular view from the edge of the Olympic Tower into the park's past and, of course, into a possible future.
